Given:  Circumference of the base of a cylinder is 88 cm and its height of 50 cm.

To find: Curved surface area and Total surface area.

Solution:

  • As we have given that circumference of the base of the cylinder, that is the circle is 88 cm, so lets equate it

                  2πr = 88

                  r = 88 / 2π

                  r = 44 / π

                  r = 14.005

  • Now, we have got the radius, so we can calculate the curved surface area.
  • Curved Surface area of cylinder is 2πrh.
  • So putting the value of r and h in the formula we get:

                 2 x π x r x h

                 2 x 3.14 x 14.005 x 50

                 4397.57 cm²

  • Similarly, total surface area of the cylinder is 2πr (r+h).
  • So putting the value of r and h in the formula we get:

                 2 x π x r (r+h).

                 2 x 3.14 x 14.005 (14.005 + 50)

                 5629 cm²

Answer:

                  Curved surface area is 4397.57 cm² and total surface area is   5629 cm²
