Given :

  • Circumference = 176 cm
  • Height = 1 m

To Find :

The lateral surface area of cylinder.

Solution :

Analysis :

First we have to find the radius of the cylinder. Then we have to convert the height to the cm. After that by using the formula for lateral surface area we can find it.

Required Formula :

  • Circumference = 2πr

  • Lateral Surface Area = 2πrh

where,

  • r = Radius
  • h = Height

Explanation :

Let the radius of the cylinder be “r” cm.

We know that if we are given the circumference and is asked to find the radius of the cylinder then our required formula is,

Circumference = 2πr

where,

  • π = 22/7
  • Circumference = 176 cm
  • r = r cm

Using the required formula and substituting the required values,

⇒ Circumference = 2πr

⇒ 176 = 2 × 22/7 × r

⇒ 176 = 44/7 × r

⇒ 176 × 7/44 = r

⇒ 1232/44 = r

⇒ 28 = r

Radius = 28 cm.

The area :

Height = 1 m

  • Height = 1 m = 100 cm

We know that if we are given the radius and height of the cylinder and is asked to find the lateral surface area of the cylinder then our required formula is,

Lateral Surface Area = 2πrh

where,

  • r = 28 cm
  • h = 100 cm
  • π = 22/7

Using the required formula and substituting the required values,

⇒ Lateral Surface Area = 2πrh

⇒ Lateral Surface Area = 2 × 22/7 × 28 × 100

⇒ Lateral Surface Area = 2 × 22 × 4 × 100

⇒ Lateral Surface Area = 17600

Lateral Surface Area = 17,600 cm².

The lateral surface area of the cylinder is 17,600 cm².
