Tropical deciduous forests are called monsoon forests.

They are found in areas that receive rainfall between 200cm- 70 cm.

During summer, the forests shed their leaves for 6-8 weeks.

The forests are divided into 2 types on the basis of availability of water :

1) Moist deciduous

2) Dry deciduous

Moist deciduous are found in areas that receive 200 cm - 100cm rainfall. They are found in eastern and north eastern part of India

Dry deciduous are found in areas that receive 100 cm - 70 cm rainfall. They are found in peninsular and parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh
