Answer:Our wise elders have given us various maxims to live happily. One of them is ‘Excess of everything is bad.’ This maxim defines the present state of carbon dioxide in our environment quite aptly and relevantly. Excess of this gas in our atmosphere has wreaked havoc with the balance of our environment. Owing to man’s selfish greedy activities, this gas assumed such a dangerous proportion in the atmosphere that if no immediate action is taken, it will soon bring an unmanageable catastrophe.

Global warming has already started affecting the entire world. Climatic changes are noticeable everywhere. Ice is melting worldwide, especially at the Earth’s poles. This includes mountain glaciers, ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland, and Arctic sea ice.

In northern Greenland traditional Inuit culture is already under threat. The sea ice that Inuit use to hunt seals, walruses, and other animals, is not staying as long as it used to. Global warming's impact on sea ice and ocean currents are also altering the distribution of animals. Melting of the huge ice sheet on Greenland will raise the sea-water level by a few feet, leading to submerging of habitable coastal areas and compelling the inhabitants to move farther inside the terrain. This would further have ecological ramifications.

The people of the world must unite and stop global warming from further rising. Green house gases’ emission must immediately be controlled along with the large scale afforestation in all the countries, especially the developing countries.

Each man or woman living on this planet must shoulder the responsibility of reducing our carbon-footprint. We must replace pollution causing fuels with clean and green energy resources.

If the environment is not given the top priority throughout the world, we will lose it forever; losing it means the annihilation of the entire humankind along with all other life-forms of flora and fauna! Do you want it to happen? If no; kindly start doing as much as you can for the preservation of the environment!
