The clock in my lounge room is 10 minutes slower than the clock on my phone, which is 6 minutes slow. My tram always leaves 6 minutes early, although it is scheduled for 8:55am. It takes me 20 minutes to get to the tram to stop. What time must I leave, according to my lounge room clock, in order to catch my train?

The time according to the lounge room clock at which the person must leave is 8:13 am.

Given

Scheduled time for Tram = 8:55 am

Tram leaves 6 mins early

Time according to Phone = 6 mins slower than the actual time

Time according to Lounge room clock  = 10mins slower than phone

TIme taken to reach tram = 20 minutes

To Find

Time to leave according to lounge room clock

Solution

We can solve the numerical by following the steps below

It is given that the time according to phone is 6 mins slower than the actual time

Time according to lounge room is 10 minutes slower than phone

So the time according to the lounge room clock = 10+6

= 16 minutes slower than the actual time

Now, the scheduled time for Tram = 8:55 am

But it leaves 6 mins early

So the actual time at which Tram leaves = 8:49 am

It takes 20 minutes to reach the tram

So the person must leave at = 8:29 am (Actual time)

At 8:29 am actual time, the clock in the lounge room is 16 minutes slower

So it will show the time as 8:13 am.

Hence the time according to the lounge room clock at which the person must leave is 8:13 am.
