The co-ordinates of the point of intersection of lines ax + by = 9 and
bx + ay= 5 is (3 , -1).
Find the values of a and b .

$a \times 3 + b \times - 1 = 9 \\ 3a - b = 9...(1) \\ b \times 3 + a \times - 1 = 5 \\ 3b - a = 5 \\ - a + 3b = 5.....(2) \\muliply \: by \: 3 \: in \: equation \: 1 \\ 9a - 3b = 27....(3) \\ equ(3) + (2) \\ 9a - 3b = 27 \\ - a + 3b = 5 \\ 8a = 32 \\ a = 4 \\ by \: substitute \\ - 4 + 3b = 5 \\ 3b = 5 + 4 \\ b = 3$
