Given info : The coefficients of viscosity of two liquids are in the ratio of 2 : 3.

To find : the ratio of the volumes of liquid collected in the same time using the same vessel completely filled with liquid of densities in the ratio of 4 : 5.

solution : from Poiseullies equation, Q = πρr⁴/8ηL

from question,

L , r are constant

so, Q ∝ ρ/η

⇒Q₁/Q₂ = (ρ₁/ρ₂) × (η₂/η₁)

= (4/5) × (3/2)

= 12/10

= 6/5

Therefore the ratio of the volumes of liquid collected in the same time is 6 : 5.
