I ). The poet says that the sixth man of this sad group is selfish man who thinks of nothing if profit is not guaranteed in it.

The each person inthis group possess a stick of wood.

II). The rich man sat back because he was thinking of all the money and the wealth he has in his possession and thinks how he can keep it away from the idle, work -shy poor man .

III). The black man saw an opportunity to take a revenge against the white as he saw the dying fire , he planned not to give his stick of wood to light up the fire as it's warmth will also be warming up the white women.

IV). At the last ,as this forlorn group of people could not stop their discrimination and didn't give their stick to the dying fire, all of the six died .

They had the scope earlier to save themselves if each of them would put his or her stick into the fire .
