Plastids are characteristic organelles of plants only. Plants are autotrophic and show the process of photosynthesis due to the presence of green coloured plastids called chloroplasts. Colourless plastids called leucoplasts store food materials like starch, proteins and fats and non-green coloured plastids called chromoplasts are important for pollination and dispersal of fruits.
