The comet is a poem written by Norman Littleford.
Introduction
The poem describes the journey of a comet as it passes through the sky. The comet journeys through the heaven at full speed and without taking a break.
The speed of the comet is greater than that of a Cheetah and it has a mile long tail. The comet is big and mightier than the mountain of the earth.
The comet is covered with ice which melts away as it speeds through the sky and forms a trail of water vapor.
When the comet nears the earth, it sends off vibrations through the atmosphere and it results in earthquake.
Conclusion
The poet speculates the scientist's theory, that the dust left behind the comet could have been the reason for the origin of life on earth. But he is not sure about the theory. So the poet sums up that he is just an observer of the comet and does not know anything more about it.
The poem is as follows.
Rampaging through the heavens never stopping day or night, a spectacle of a lifetime a comet in full flight. Faster than a cheetah with a tail that's miles long, bigger than a mountain so powerful and strong.
The outer ice is melting causing vapour from the force, and leaves a trail behind it as it travels on its course.
If one should come too close to earth the atmosphere will shake, with shock waves reaching to the ground causing the land to quake.
Scientists say the chemicals in the dust they leave behind, could have started life on earth which resulted in mankind.
I cannot say if this is true I do not have the right, but I know no better spectacle than a comet in full flight.
