Halley's Comet is in a very elliptical orbit (the eccentricity is 0.967).  It takes the comet 75-76 years to complete a full orbit.  The period is not exact because it is affected by perturbations caused by the planets in the solar system (sometimes they speed it up or slow it down a little).

Looking at the figure I drew, we can see that Halley's comet travels out beyond Neptune.  It takes Neptune almost 165 years to complete its far more circular orbit.
