For 400 soldiers, food is sufficient for = 12 days
Let food consumed by 1 soldier in 1 day be f
And total food be F, so
F = 400 x f x 12
Now another 80 soldiers join the group, so
let now the number of days food will last be d, so
F = 480 x f x d

Equating both equations, we get
400 x f x 12 = 480 x f x d
400 x 12 = 480 x d
5 x 12 = 6 x d
d = 10
Therefore, now food will last 10 days.
