Glucose is prepared commercially or industrially by either of the two processes. Either by hydrolysis of starch or by using cane sugar.
In the first process, starch is heated with a dilute solution of sulphuric acid under appropriate temperature and pressure conditions. The starch is then hydrolysed to give glucose.
In the second process, cane sugar which is also known as sucrose is again hydrolysed or heated in the presence of a dilute acid. The acid could either be hydrochloric acid or sulphuric acid. The hydrolysis gives glucose.
