Given:

Arithmetic progression -1,1,3

To find:

Common difference =

Solution:

Common difference can be calculated by subtracting the second term with first term, third term with second term and accordingly. The similar answer we get in all subtraction becomes our common difference

Here,

1-(-1) = 1+1 = 2

3-1 = 2

The common difference(d) is 2

Required answer:

Therefore, in Arithmetic progression of -1, 1,3 the common difference is 2

Knowledge booster:

# To find nth term of an AP we use

  \\ tn \:  = a + (n - 1)d \\  \\ where \: a \:  = first \: term \\  \\ n = given \: term \: to \: find \\  \\ d = common \: difference \\  \\ t \:  = term \:

# Example: In above AP -1,1, 3 find 5th term

a = -1, d = 2, n = 5

t5 = -1+ (5-1)2

t5 = -1+8

t5 = 7

Thus, 7 is 5th term of AP -1, 1,3
