Azospirillum is a “nitrogen fixing bacteria” that is commonly found on rice fields.
Azospirillum is a symbiotic bacterium which is responsible for the ‘conversion’ of “atmospheric nitrogen” to “ammonia. Apart from fixing nitrogen, Azospirillum is added to the ‘soil’ to provide the plants with suitable growth factors which helps in increasing the crop yield for economically important plants (rice).
These growth factors include “IAA (indole-3-acetic acid)” and gibberellins. Azospirillum affects the “plant growth” under the following “stress conditions” by the ‘production’ of auxins and different plant hormones.
