Wustite is electrically neutral species. This means the sum of total charge of wustite will be zero. In wustite the negative charge is O2- and iron which is present in two form Fe2+ and Fe3+. Stoichiometrically we have 1 oxygen molecule and 0.93 iron atom whose charges are cancelling each other. Let us consider there are 100 O2- anion. Then there will 93 iron in mixture of Fe2+ and Fe 3+.

Let us consider x number of Fe2+ ion then remaining 93-x ion would be that of Fe3+

As I said it is electrically neutral species so the total charges should compensate each other.

so (93-x)*3 + x*2= 2*100

solving for x we get x=79 for Fe2+ ion.

The rest would be Fe3+ ion i.e. 14

so percentage of Fe2+ would be 79/93*100= 84.9%

and Fe3+ would be 15.1%

wurtzite is a mineral consisting of zinc sulphide, typically occurring as brownish-black pyramidal crystals.

We know that in pure iron oxide(FeO),iron and oxygen are present in the ratio 1: 1

In wustite (Fe0.93O1.00),some of the Fe2+ ions are missing and the number of Fe2+ ions present in 0.93 instead of 1
