The compound with the formula CO is called carbon monoxide. Suggest why it is not simply called "carbon oxide".

BEACAUSE THE TOTAL MOLECULE OF OXYGEN IS SINGLE

AND IF SAID OXIDE WE CAN`T KNOW THAT HOW MANY MOLEULE OF OXYGEN TAKE PLACE

Carbon Monoxide tells how many oxygen atoms are there in an compound if there will be simply carbon oxide we won't know how many atoms are there in the compound.
