In 1923, A. H. Compton (USA, 1892 - 1962) discovered that the scattering of X rays by a crystal can be explained well on the basis of the particle nature of light. (Of course, the phenomenon that X rays are scattered by crystals had been well-known before.)

Compton Effect can be defined on the basis of:
- Compton Effect is the inelastic scattering of high-energy photons with loose electrons or free-charged particles.
- In this effect, photon transfers part of its energy and energy to charged particles.
- Therefore, the effect of the photon effect is less than that of the incident photon.
- Compton described and modified data by capturing the particle (photon) environment of light and applying energy conservation and energy conservation in the interaction between photon and electron.
- Scattered photon has a lower energy and therefore a longer wavelength according to Planck's relationship.
