The concrete slab needed to build the rectangular garden bench is 3╱8 cubic meters. The length is 1 m longer than the width. The height and width have the same length. What is the width of the rectangular bench? ​

let the width be b meter, hence height is also b meter. length= (b+1) meter. volume of the slab= b×b×(b+1) cubic meter, given that b^2(b+1)= 3/8, or 8b^3 + 8b^2 - 3= 0, one root of this equation is b=1/2, (b- 1/2)(4b^2+6×b+3)=0, since 4b^2+6b+3=0 has no real root, hence b=1/2 meter.
