The statement is true that the conquest of Bengal was a turning point in the history of India. The conquest of Bengal had far reaching results which transformed the subsequent history of India. There are some points in favour of this statement.

1) Siraj-ud-Daula was defeated in the battle of Plassey and he was replaced by Mir Zafar as Nawab of Bengal. The new Nawab had no independent power or existence. He remained the Nawab as long as it suited to the Company.

2) The British gained the terriory of 24 Parganas from the Nawab. Their trade also received impetus.Their position became more secure. The East India Company established trading factories in the interior of the Bengal.

3) The victory in the battle of Buxor made the British the master of Bengal. The English had now at their disposal resources in money and men and those were used against the French in the Carnatic wars. They defeated the French in the final phase of the Anglo-French struggle in Deccan.

4) The conquest of Bengal made it possible for the British to conquer Northern India. The British acquired the Diwani of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. The conquest of Bengal paved the way for the establishment of the British supremacy in India.
