The fact that mixture does not have fixed proportion only differentiates it form compounds. If the proportion becomes fixed and the elements get bonded then it will become a compound . e.g.,sugar dissolved in water is a mixture and its proportion is not fixed i.e.,someone may make a more concentrated solution and someone a less concentrated one.
