The Constitution of India is the supreme law in

India. A Constitution is a set of rules and regulations

guiding the administration of a country.

The drafting of the constitution was done by

an assembly of elected representatives called the

Constituent Assembly.

The Assembly adopted the Constitution on 26

November 1949 but it came into effect on 26

January 1950. To mark this day we celebrate

January 26 as Republic Day every year. To commemorate the adoption of the Constitution Of

India, 26th November is celebrated as the National

Constitution Day.

At the time of its adoption, the Constitution

contained 395 Articles and 8 Schedules.

Ambedkar is recognised as the "Father of

the Constitution of India". In the constitution

assembly, a member of the drafting committee and

President of Constituent assembly of India was

Dr.Rajendra Prasad.

Constituent assembly took 2 years and 11

months and 18 days period of time to the formation

of the Indian Constitution.
