The constitution is known as the soul of democracy because-
1. The constitution lays down the guidelines to govern decision making in the society.
2. The constitution lays down rules that guard against the authority by political leaders.
3. It guarantees the fundamental right.
4. It ensures that a dominant group does not misuse the power it has. 
5. It prevents the dominance of the majority over the minority.
