The construction of large dams lead to social and environmental problems.

Some of the social problems caused due to dam's construction are:

  • Construction of large dams is the cause for the dislocation of the people from that place in the mass because the large dams require too much space and therefore, the people living in that area are needed to be displaced to somewhere else.
  • A huge amount of money is required for the dam's construction which is not beneficial for the economy of the social construct that we are the part of.

Some of the environmental problems due to dam's construction are:

  • The flora and fauna in the area where the dam is needed to be constructed on the river submerges because of the dam's construction which is harmful for our environment.
  • The large storage tanks in the dams can be the cause of floods in the monsoon seasons.
  • It can cause the large scale deforestation, water logging, excessive sedimentation and salinity of the water stored.
