Hey mate..

What is dam ?

A dam is a barrier that stops or restricts the flow of water or underground streams.

But at present , the construction of big dams can cause a couple of social and environmental problems.

You have asked to give two problems. Well Here are they --->

1) Environmental problems--->
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dams contribute enormously to deforestation and the loss of biological diversity .
2) Social problems----->
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Construction of Dams displace a large number of peasants and tribals without adequate compensation and re-habilitation.

The people who have been displaced by these dams are poor tribals who do not get any benefit from these projects and are alienated from their lands without adequate compensation.

The Government should take a step towards our displaced and poor people.

Hello Raj

What is a Dam?

A dam is barrier which is made to hold the water and increase the level of water. It is like a concrete wall, a very big concrete wall.
Dam has many uses like it generates electricity, help full in preventing floods etc.

You asked for two problems lead by Dam

1. Social Problem

A social problem is a problem which is related to the society. These kind of problems affects society negatively.
When A Dam is built it needs a larger area. Many people has to give up land or house to make a dam either they want or not. They have to displace from their native place to another place although Govt compensation them for their land, but they are compensated for their emotional loss of losing their native place or ancestors place.

2. Environmental Problem

Since a Dam works as a barrier to hold the water back it stops the flow of water which leads to death of many animals and organism who were dependent on the river for water.

It also blocks the natural way of flow of a river.
Dams affects the wildlife in a negative manner and also leads to soil erosion.

There are many dams in India like Bhakra Nangal Dam of Punjab on Sutluj River etc.

hope it helps
