If it was surrounded on four sides by water it would be an island or a continent.That's a very uninformed & insensitive proposition.

South America is a giant landmass.

It's only the tail at the very tip that is a considered a penninsula.

But only where it's not wide enough to have four different climate zones extending East to West.
