Answer:

The correct option is Option(2) 6 and 3

Explanation:

(en) is bidentate. So, coordination number for 1 (en) is 2.

Cl is monodentate. So, coordination number for 1 Cl is 1.

Here, there are 2 of (en) and 2 of Cl.

So, total coordination number is ( 2 x 2 ) + 2 = 6

To find oxidation number , then let oxidation number = x

          Now, x -2 +0 = 1    ( ∵ 2 Cl so -2 and (en) is neutral, so +0 )

    The above expression is = 1 because if the complex dissociates, it dissociates into [CoCl₂(en)₂]⁺ and Cl⁻ and the charge on the complex is +1.

⇒ x = 1 + 2

  x = 3

Therefore, oxidation number is 3.

Bidentate = forms 2 bonds with central metal atom.

Monodentate = forms 1 bond with central metal atom.
