Carbon dioxide passed intolimewater gives a milky solution, due to precipitation of an insoluble suspension of calcium carbonate: Ca(OH)2(aq) + CO2(g) → CaCO3(s) + H2O(l)

When carbon dioxide is passed through lime water, it turns milky or turbid due to the formation of calcium carbonate which is insoluble in water. However if excess carbon dioxide is allowed to pass, the turbidity disappears due to the formation of calcium bicarbonate which is solublein water.
