Given: Cost of 1 table and 4 chairs = Rs 3,400

Cost of one table = cost of one chair + Rs 900

To find: Cost of a chair and a table

Let: Cost of one table = Rs X

Cost of one chair = Rs Y

Solution: According to the given question,

                   X + 4Y = 3400  or X = 3400 - 4Y        ...(1)

           Also, X = Y + 900                                        ...(2)

Comparing equation (1) and (2)

 3400 - 4Y = Y + 900                   [X = 3400 - 4Y and X = Y + 900 as well]

 3400 - 900 = Y + 4Y

 2500 = 5Y

 Y = 500

Hence, the cost of one chair = Rs 500

putting value of Y in equation (2)

X = 500 + 900 = 1400

Hence, the cost of one table = Rs 1400
