n-10)/10=loss

n -10)/10=40/100

(n-10)/10=4/10

n-10=4

n=4+10=14

verification .

loss=(14-10)×100/10=4×100/10=4×10

=40%

Answer:

The value of n = 16

Step-by-step explanation:

As per the question,

let us consider the C.P of 1 Pen be = y

∴ C.P of 10 pen = 10 y

The cost of 10 pens is the same as the selling price of n pen,that is,

10y = S.P of n pen.

∴ S.P of 1 pen = \ \frac{10y}{n}

The formula for loss % ,

LOSS \ percent \ = \frac{C.P \ - \ S.P}{C.P} \times100

As LOSS % = 40

40 \ = \ \frac{y \ - \frac{10y}{n} }{y} \times \ 100

After solving further ,we get,

n = 16.66

As the number of pen is a quantity which is only expressed in integer form,that's why the nearest integer is 16.

Hence, the value of n = 16
