The cost of 2 kg of apples and 1kg of grapes on a day was found to be * 160. After a
month, the cost of 4 kg of apples and 2 kg of grapes is 300. Represent the situation
algebraically and geometrically.

2x+y=160---(1eqn.)
4x+2y=300---(2nd eqn.)
2x=160-y (from 1st eqn.)
x=160-y÷2
Now put the value of x in 2nd eqn.
4[160-y/2]+2y=300
4[160-y/2+2y]=300
now take tha LCM in bracket.
4[160-y+4y/2]=300
4[160+3y/2]=300
Cut the 4 by 2 which is in divide
2[160+3y]=300
320+6y=300
6y=300-320
y=-20/6
y=-10/3 now put this value in 1st eqn

Let the cost of 1 kg of apples be ‘Rs. x’
And, cost of 1 kg of grapes be ‘Rs. y’
According to the question, the algebraic representation is
2x+y = 160
And 4x+2y = 300
For, 2x+y = 160 or y = 160−2x
