we have:
2x +2y = 46
➡ x+y = 23
➡ x = 23 - y
and,
3x + 5y = 74 -----------(1)
by putting the value of x in equation 1, we get:
3(23 -y) + 5y = 74
=> 69 - 3y + 5y = 74
=> 69 + 2y = 74
=> y = 2.5
by putting the value of y in equation 1, we get:
x = 21.5
Hence, cost of one pen and one pencil is Rs. 23
