Answer :

Cost of each shirt = Rs.150

Cost of each pant = Rs.300

Solution :

Let the cost of each shirt and pant be Rs.x and Rs.y respectively .

Now ,

According to the question ,

The cost of 2 shirt and 3 pants together is Rs.1200 .

Thus ,

2x + 3y = 1200 ---------(1)

Also ,

It is given that ,

If the number of shirts and pants are interchanged , the cost is Rs.150 less .

Thus ,

=> 3x + 2y = 1200 - 150

=> 3x + 2y = 1050 --------(2)

Now ,

Multiplying eq-(1) by 2 , we get ;

=> 2(2x + 3y) = 2•1200

=> 4x + 6y = 2400 -----------(3)

Now ,

Multiplying eq-(2) by 3 , we get ;

=> 3(3x + 2y) = 3•1050

=> 9x + 6y = 3150 ---------(4)

Now ,

Subtracting eq-(3) from eq-(4) , we get ;

=> (9x + 6y) - (4x + 6y) = 3150 - 2400

=> 9x + 6y - 4x - 6y = 750

=> 5x = 750

=> x = 750/5

=> x = 150

Now ,

Putting x = 150 in eq- (1) , we get ;

=> 2x + 3y = 1200

=> 2•150 + 3y = 1200

=> 300 + 3y = 1200

=> 3y = 1200 - 300

=> 3y = 900

=> y = 900/3

=> y = 300

Hence ,

Cost of each shirt = Rs.150

Cost of each pant = Rs.300
