The cost of 2 table exceeds the cost of 3 chairs by RS 120.
Form a linear equation in two variables to represent the situation.
Also find the cost of one table, if the cost of the chair is RS 60 .

Let the cost of 1 table= x

Cost of 1 chair=y

since the cost of 2 chairs exceeds the cost of 3 chairs, it implies that the cost of 2 chairs is greater than the cost of 3 chairs.

2x> 3y

and the difference between 2x and 3y is given in the question as 120, so the equation is, 2x-3y= 120

and the cost of  one chair, that is 'y' is given. so substitute the value of y in the above eqn.

2x-3(60)= 120

2x-180= 120

2x= 300x

x=150

so the cost of one table is 150 Rs.
