Let us denote the orange X and the apple Y. Now, cost of 5 oranges and 3 apples is Rs. 30, i.e.

5*X + 3*Y = 30.....................................................(1)

Again, cost of 2 oranges and apples is 26, i.e.

2*X + Y = 26..........................................................(2)

Equating (1) and (2), we have Y = - 16 which is absurd.

The question is wrong.

CORRECTION:

QUESTION: "the cost of 5 oranges and 3 apples is rs.30 and cost of 2 oranges and 3 apples is rs 26 find the cost of an orange and an apple"

ANSWER: In similar procedure done previously we can have, X = 4/3 and Y = 70/9.

Then, cost of an orange and an apple is (4/3 + 70/9) = 82/9.(ans.)
