30 pens can be exchanged for 90 pencils.

Given:

The cost of five pens = The cost of 15 pencils.

To Find:

The number of pens.

Solution:

Let M denotes pencils and N denotes pens.

Given that,

The cost of five pens = The cost of 15 pencils.

5×N = 15×M

N = \frac{15}{5} \times M

N= 3×M

⇒The cost of one pen = The cost of three pencils

For N pens ,90 pencils were brought.
