Let the cost of a notebook be Rs. x and that of a pen be Rs. y.

Given the cost of a notebook is twice the cost of a pen.

Then x=2y

or, x−2y=0.

This is the required linear equation in two variable.

Step-by-step explanation:

(a) Cost of 1 notebook = Rs x

Cost of 10 notebooks = 10 * x

= 10x

(b) Cost of book = Rs y

Cost of pencil = y-5

(c) Step 1

Cost of 1 notebook = Rs x

Cost of 6 notebooks = x*6

= 6x

Step 2

Cost of 1 book = Rs y

Cost of 9 books = y*9

= 9y

Step 3

Total cost = Cost of 6 notebooks + Cost of 9 books

= 6x + 9y

Hope it helps
