Total money he must have to buy both a pair of trouser and a shirt is Rs. 108.5

Step-by-step explanation:

let the cost of the shirt be x

given

cost of trouser = 55% of cost of shirt

cost of trouser = 55% of x

cost of trouser = \frac{55}{100}\times x = 0.55x

according to the question

cost of shirt = Rs. 31.50 more than the cost of trouser

cost of shirt = 31.50 + (0.55x)

x= 31.50 + (0.55x)

x- 0.55x = 31.50

0.45 x= 31.50

x= \frac{31.50}{0.45}

x= Rs. 70

cost of the shirt is Rs. 70

then

the cost of the pair of trouser = (0.55)x

putting the value of x

cost of pair of trouser = 0.55\times 70 = Rs. 38.5

cost of pair of trouser is Rs. 38.5

total amount he must to pay to buy both shirt and and a pair of trouser

= cost of shirt + cost of trouser

= 70 + 38.5

=Rs. 108.5

Total money he must have to buy both a pair of trouser and a shirt is Rs. 108.5
