Answer:

let the price of pen be ₹x

let the price of pencil be ₹y

x + y = 18.........................(1) \\ x = 18 - y.........................(2) \\ 5x = y...............................(3) \\  \\ substuting \: 2 \: in \: 3 \\  \\ 5 \times (18 - y) = y \\ 90 - 5y = y \\ 90 = y + 5y \\ 90 = 6y \\ y =  \frac{90}{6}  \\ y = 15.............(4) \\  \\ substuting \: value \: of \: y \: in \: 1 \\  \\ x + y = 18 \\ x + 15 = 18 \\ x = 18 - 15 \\ x = 3

therefore,

value of pencil is ₹3

value of pen is ₹15

pen = 15

Pencil = 3

Explanation:-

___________

Total cost of pen and pencil is Rs. 18.

And the cost of pen is 5 times more than pencil.

Then:

• Cost of pencil -

= Rs. { ( 5+1 )÷18 }

= Rs. ( 6÷18 )

= Rs. 3

• Cost of pen -

= Rs. ( 3×5 )

= Rs. 15
