The cost of an orange and an apple is 15.50. The cost of 3 oranges and an apple is 31.50.

The first statement gives an equation : 2O+3A=$350 ………..(1)

The second statement gives an equation:3O+2A=$400……….(2)

Adding (1) and (2) the equation becomes :

5*(O+A)=$750

=>O+A=$150 ……………………(3)

Now eq (2)- 2*eq(1)

3O+2A-2O-2A= $400–2*$150

=> O=$100 (answer)
