Step-by-step explanation:

L - 18m , B - ?

Area - L * B - 18B

New length - 18m , New breadth - B 4m

New area - 18 (B - 4)

Let the rate be X per sqm

Now, 18B * X - 1260

18 (B - 4) * X - 1620

Dividing two equations,

18BX

_________ = 2160

18 (B - 4) X ___

1620

1620B = 2160 (B - 4)

B = 16m

Perimeter = 2 (L + B) = 68m

Area = L × B = 16 × 18m2 = 288m2.

I hope it is helpful to you.

Given :  The length of a room is 18 m and to cover the floor of the room by carpet rupees 2160 is required.

Had the breadth been 4 m less the cost of covering with carpet would have been rupees 1620.

To Find:  the area of the floor of the room.

Solution:

Length = 18 m

Breadth = x m

cost of carpet per sq m  =  y

Hence Total cost = 18xy   = 2160

=> xy = 120

New breadth =  x - 4 m

New cost = 18(x - 4)y = 1620

=> xy - 4y  = 90

=> 120 - 4y  = 90

=> 4y = 30

=> y = 15/2

xy = 120

=> x (15/2) = 120

=> x =  16

Area of the floor = 18x

= 18(16)2

=288  m²
