Let the Cost of Table be 'x'

Cost of Chair be 'y'

According to the Question;

x = 3y                      →→→   (Equation 1)

x + 4y = ₹ 21000    →→→   (Equation 2)

Substituting Equation 1 in Equation 2,

x + 4y = 21000

⇒ 3y + 4y = 21000

⇒ 7y = 21000

⇒ y = 21000 ÷ 7

⇒ y = 3000

Cost of 1 chair = ₹3000

For finding the cost of table,

We need to substitute value of y in any one of the 2 equations.

x = 3y

⇒ x = 3(3000)

⇒ x = 9000

Cost of one table = ₹9000

Cost of 1 table + 1 chair

= ₹3000 + ₹9000

= ₹12000

Verification:

You can verify the above answer by substituting cost of Table and chair in Equation 2.

x + 4y = 21000

⇒ 9000 + 4(3000) = 21000

⇒ 9000 + 12000 = 21000

⇒ 21000 = 21000

LHS = RHS
