the cost of the article is proportional to square of its weight. the price of the article in its entire weight is ₹8100. the article was sold breaking it into 3 pieces in ratio of 1:3:5. then find the loss incurred by the merchant?​

Solution :-

Let us assume that, total weight of the article is 9x .

given that,

→ cost ∝ w²

→ cost = k * w² (where k is constant.)

→ 8100 = k * (9x)²

→ 8100 = k * 81x²

→ kx² = 100

now,

→ Price of all three parts = k*(x)² + k*(3x)² + k*(5x)²

→ Price of all three parts = kx² + 9kx² + 25kx²

→ Price of all three parts = 35kx²

putting value of kx² ,

→ Price of all three parts = 35 * 100 = Rs.3500 .

therefore,

→ Loss incurred by the merchant = 8100 - 3500 = Rs.4600 (Ans.)
