Given : The cost per km of an electrical Cable is given by c. 120/x + 6oox

x is the cross section Sqm..

To Find :  cross section for Which cost is least

The least cost per km

Solution:

C = 120/x  + 600x

dC/dx =  -120/x²  + 600

dC/dx = 0

=>  -120/x²  + 600 = 0

=> 120/x² = 600

=> x²  = 1/5

=> x = 1/√5

dC/dx =  -120/x²  + 600

=> d²C/dx²  = 240/x³   > 0

Hence  for x = 1/√5    cost is minimum

cross section for Which cost is least is   √5 m²

C = 120/(1/√5)  + 600*1/√5

=> C = 120√5  + 120√5

=> C = 240√5

=> C = 536.66  Per km
