Let the SP of 1 pen be Rs. x
So, SP of 12 pens = Rs. 12x
Now, given CP of 16 pens = SP of 12 pens
CP of 16 pens = Rs. 12x
So, SP of 16 pens = Rs. 16x
Now, SP > CP, so here is gain.
Gain = Rs. (16x - 12x)
= Rs. 4x
So, gain per cent = 4x/12x × 100 (here x and x got cancelled)
=100/3 or 33⅓%
