Question:

The C.P. of an article is 600 which is 25% below the M.P. If it was sold at the discount of 15%, find M.P., S.P. and profit %.

Answer:

  • The M.P. is 800.
  • The S.P. is 680.
  • The profit is 13\frac{1}{3}%

Given:

C.P. = 600

C.P. is 25% below the M.P.

Discount = 15%

To find:

M.P.

S.P.

Profit %

Explanation:

Let, the M.P. be, 'n'.

∴ The C.P. is less than the M.P. by_

(n×25/100)

= n/4 [∵ Dividing 25 and 100 by 25.]

∴ C.P._

=(n-\frac{n}{4})\\ \\=(\frac{4n-n}{4})

[∵ The L.C.M. of the denominators is 4.]

=\frac{3n}{4}

According to problem:

\frac{3n}{4} = 600\\

⇒ 3n = (600×4)

⇒ n = (2400/3)

⇒ n = 800.

∴ The M.P. is 800.

The discount is 15% of M.P.

∴ The discount is_

(800×\frac{15}{100})

= (8× 15) [∵ Dividing 800 and 100 by 100.]

= 120.

∴ The discount is 120.

∴ The S.P. is = (800-120)

                      = 680

So, the discount is 680.

∴ Profit = (S.P.-C.P.)

           = (680-600)

          = 80.

So, the profit %_

(\frac{80}{600} × 100)

= (80/6) [∵ Dividing 600 and 100 by 100.]

= (40/3) [∵ Dividing 80 and 6 by 2.]

= 13\frac{1}{3}%%

∴ The profit is 13\frac{1}{3}%.
