Answer:

CP of 1 watch = Rs.360

CP of 2nd watch = Rs.480

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : The CP of two watches taken together is 840. If by selling one at profit of 16% and the other at a loss of 12% ,there is no gain or loss in the whole transaction.

To find : CP of each watch?

Solution :

Let the CP of watch 1 = Rs x.

CP of 2nd watch = 840-x

SP of 1st watch is when profit is 16%

SP_1=\frac{116x}{100}

SP of 2nd watch is when 12% loss

SP_2=\frac{88(840-x)}{100}

No loss/gain

840=\frac{116x}{100}+\frac{88(840-x)}{100}

840\times 100=116x-88x+88\times840

84000 = 28x+73920

28x= 84000-73920

28x=10080

x=360

Now,

CP of 1st watch = Rs.360

CP of 2nd watch= 840-x = 840-360 =Rs.480

Therefore, CP of each watch is 360 and 480.
