Answer: The cross-section of a piece of metal 2 m in length is shown

1 cubic centimetre of the metal weights 6.6 gm

To Find : (i) the area of the cross-section

(ii) the volume of the piece of metal in cubic centimeteres.

the weight of the piece of metal to the nearest kg.

Solution:

Area of cross section

= Area of rectangle + area of trapezium

= 6 x 5  + (1/2) * (12 + 6) ( 8 - 5)

= 30  + 9 (3)

= 30 + 27

= 57  cm²

or   6 x 8  +  (1/2) (12 - 6) (8 - 5)

= 48 + 9

= 57  cm²

Length =  2m = 2 x 100 = 200 cm

Volume = cross section area x length

57 x 200  = 11400 cm³

1  cm³  weigh  =  6.6 g

=>  11400 cm³ weigh = 11400 x 6.6

= 75,240  g

= 75.24  kg

= 75 kg
