Answer:

They did so because they wanted to find if ranga had changed because he had moved to Banglore.

Explanation:

When the news spread that ranga is back , everyone gathered to see him ,the poet compares this scene of people gathering to 'BLACK HOLE OF CALCUTTA' because in Calcutta earlier troops of sir ud daula had imprisoned british, so and when a old lady found the sacred thread in ranga's chest ,it was confirm that ranga had not changed , so this is compared to a lump of sugar in childs mouth which means just a like a child how when it takes a lump of sugar it immediately dissolves the same way the crowd had gone . Because now they know that ranga hasn't changed.

thank you

Answer:

The crowd melted away like a lump of sugar in a child’s mouth after they had seen Ranga.

Everyone in his village was curious to see Ranga because he had returned to village after six months. Ranga’s homecoming was a great event as he was the first person from his village to go to Bangalore to study. When he returned after six months, every villager rushed to his house to have a look at him. They expected his studies in Bangalore must have changed him quite a bit. There was so much of crowd gathered outside his house. Ranga came out with a smile on his face. Everyone was surprised to see that Ranga was the same as he had been six months ago, when he had first left our village. After finding no change in him, the crowd melted away like a lump of sugar in a child’s mouth.
