Heya,
There occurs displacement reaction. Displacement reaction means a more reactive metal displaces the less reactive one.
When iron fillings are dropped in the copper sulphate solution, then the colour of soultion fades and turn into pale green. The beaker becomes slightly hot due to the liberation of heat. There is also a reddish deposition over the iron fillings are observed. This is due to the fact that the iron displaces copper from copper sulphate solution. And hence iron is more reactive than that of copper.
